Buttons, Lids and Shells

Simple objects can tell us a great deal about the people who used them. How would you classify a bag of shells, lids or buttons – by shape, colour or size? Discover what typologies are and why archaeologists develop them and then use them. Create your own!

This session is recommended for Year 7s and it can be completed in 20 minutes. Each student is given a bag of objects which they can sort in whatever way they choose. As a group the students share their findings and consider what the objects tell us about their owners.
